Here at The Wooden Garden, we offer two different types of wooden flowers. Although both are handmade from wood, they have many differences! But the main difference you will notice (apart from their appearance) is the way they feel. Birch wood roses are quite sturdy and stiff while sola wood flowers are soft, delicate and pliable. Birch Wood Roses are made from high quality Birchwood shavings. Each rose is individually handmade, crafted from shavings of birchwood which are shaped and bonded together on a polystyrene inner bud. The stem is created with wire and coated with a green raffia paper. These wooden roses are then finished to a high quality in a vast assortment of colours. A single wooden rose is approximately 12"(30cm) from stem to tip. The bud is approximately 2"(5cm) high & 1"(2.5cm) wide. Sola Wood Flowers (or 'shola') are made from a plant called Aeschynomene aspera. It's a plant that grows wild in marsh areas. Because it grows quickly, it is a renewable resource and one of the lightest known woods. Sola wood flowers are available in many different varieties and sizes and are extremely life-like due to their intricate details and delicate petals. The flowers arrive in their natural creamy colour and are then hand painted and stemmed by yours truly.

Yes! Every single flower is created by hand and no machines are used. The flowers are composed of petals that are hand cut or shaved and then shaped by fine craftsmen to create gorgeous, realistic flowers. It's an artisanal process that can't be mechanised. Because of this, each flower is one of a kind, no two are exactly alike.

One of the best features of Wooden Flowers is that they are quite low maintenance. To keep them looking their best, here are a few simple tips. Do not water the flowers. If they are exposed directly to water, some flowers may lose their shape. Keep them out of direct sunlight and humidity. Dust when required with a soft make up brush or hair dryer on a cool setting. Wooden Flowers are created to be everlasting however, ultimately, you determine how long your Wooden Flowers will last by the amount of care you extend to them.

Wooden flowers have a natural earthy scent, and are considered quite safe for those with allergies, or in hospitals and nursing homes where they don't allow fresh flowers. You can however, add a spritz of your favourite fragrance, a drop of essential oil, or a spray of our rose scented perfume (available for purchase) to give your wooden flowers that extra sense of realism.

Yes! Sola wood flowers are made of eco-friendly, renewable and sustainable materials. They are 100% biodegradable and are free of damaging pollutants and chemicals. Compared to fresh and faux flowers, sola wood flowers are by far the most environmentally conscious choice!
